Scaling Green Finance to Transform Pacific/PNG Financial Sector for Sustainable Growth

GGGI Papua New Guinea’s Session on “Green Finance Pathways to Scale up Transforming Financial Sector in the Pacific/ PNG towards Green Growth” kicked off the #GlobalGreenGrowthWeek yesterday, 23 October 2023 as the second session of the day.

The session panelists included Mr. George Awap, Assistant Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, Ms. Debra Sungi, Acting Manager MRV, Climate Change & Development Authority (CCDA), Ms. Vani Nades, CEO of Emstret Space and Mr. Tony Westaway, CEO of Nationwide MicroBank all gathered at the CCDA’s office, Hoholo, Port Moresby for the panel discussion. Joining online were Ms. Johanna Nyman from the Alliance for Financial Inclusion and Mr. Aaron Levine from International Finance Corporation. The session was moderated by GGGI PNG Country Representative Mr. Sakiusa Tuisolia who joined online as well from GGGI HQ Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The core objective of the session was to understand the inclusive green finance landscape globally and at home and appreciate what is on the ground in the finance sector to fast-track transformative climate action where panelist shared their observation, challenges, and gains in their areas of work concerning inclusive green finance.

A successful session that was attended by over 200 participants joining virtually as well as being present on the ground. Special thanks to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ MFAT) for their generous funding support for this initiative.
